2027 GMC Hummer EV Icon Preview

2027 GMC
Hummer EV Icon | 25 Preview

When the Hummer rolled into the consumer market in the early 1990s, it made a splash with drivers who desired a seriously capable SUV and had the finances to afford one. Interest in the vehicle sprang from the military predecessor, known as the Humvee (that nickname is derived from High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, its complete moniker for armed forces purposes). Serious Humvee fans, including the particularly influential Arnold Schwarzenegger, encouraged GMC to make a consumer version, which was eventually introduced at the 2002 Los Angeles Auto Show.

A quarter century later, that vehicle is being commemorated with the 2027 Hummer EV Icon | 25 in limited numbers. The special edition will be available in both the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV format with a choice of either the 2X or 3X powertrain. The styling will be a mix of nostalgic and contemporary, and production will kick off at GM’s Factory ZERO facility in Michigan at the end of 2026.

Design – Inside and Out

As this is a limited-production special edition, each unit will have a numbered badge mounted to the right of the instrument panel. Hummer fans will remember the signature hue of the first H2s, and GMC is honoring the color by gracing every Icon | 25 with an exterior that they’re calling Icon Yellow. Large (22-inch) wheels in GMC’s Deep Void finish will complement the sunny paint, which will also be used on the SUV version’s spare tire and its cover. For the first time, GMC will offer a black interior for the Hummer EV, which should provide interesting color contrast. An illuminated grille and an Infinity Roof with removable panels will add modern flair.

Performance and Capability

Hummer EV Icon | 25 buyers will be able to select either the 2X or 3X powertrain. According to GMC, the 3X will supply as much as 1,160 horsepower in conjunction with the available 24-module battery, with the ability to reach 60 mph from 0 in under 3 seconds.

The model’s specialized chassis technology will carry over, with available 4-Wheel Steering and the innovative CrabWalk feature. The optional King Crab mode will tighten up the rear-wheel steering for specialized trail driving. With the available Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and Extract Mode, the Hummer EV Icon | 25’s operator can raise the vehicle 6 additional inches to get it over rocks and other obstacles.

Charging and Power

The standard NACS port will make charging convenient, since no adapter will be needed for use with Tesla Superchargers and other NACS stations. Available vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging capability will add convenience in situations such as camping or tailgating. This feature can even be used to charge another EV or power a properly equipped home during outages.
