Fresh off a lineup expansion that added the rugged AT4 and upscale Denali grades for 2026, GMC’s entry-level compact SUV, the Terrain, has been given subtler but no less significant updates for the 2027 model year. While the model’s third generation continues to carry over strong GMC styling cues, a notable mechanical enhancement and a handful of technology upgrades improve the 2027 model. The base trim, Elevation, now gets an 8-speed automatic transmission instead of a continuously variable transmission with its front-wheel drivetrain. At the top end of the lineup, the Denali gains an interior camera with a security video recording function, along with Cabin Glance, which allows the driver to view a live feed of the rear seats on the center display; the standard HD Surround Vision camera on this trim has been upgraded with recording capabilities as well. Both the interior camera and exterior surround camera are optional for the Elevation and AT4 via the Technology Package II.
